Still working details out for this one, but we will probably be able to meet inside the store; if not then we'll just be in the parking lot. Bring your pack and the gear you'll be hauling; maybe we can share & double up to lighten some loads.

I'm up for dinner too before/after if anyone is interested, lots of places to go in the area.

Please try to make this, even if you are an experienced backpacker. Not only will we be able to benefit from your experience, but you'll get to meet the rest of us. :)

More details to follow!

P.S. automatic reminders wont be sent out for this one, so if you're not going on the BP trip no need to RSVP :) i'll send notes only to people who will be there.

We didnt talk too much about the actual day itself, which is one of the things we were supposed to do. We're working toward holding test packs for all our backcountry trips, to make sure everyone has an understanding about backcountry trips, and to gauge experience levels. any feedback/suggestions about how to do this and not be boring or a waste of time is appreciated! (besides the obvious "dont hold them at REI anymore" LOL)

Really sorry I missed this. I just moved to a new house, I'm exhausted, and my new home is in chaos. I have backpacked before, so I'll probably just ask the good chaps at REI to give me some pointers.

i had to have it towed two blocks. as i handed the guy fifty bucks i realized that if i was in philly i could have called half a dozen people to help push hit. down here...well unfortunately my dog can't steer and the only other people i know are old ladies and middle schoolers.....

my tablets have a neutralizing component so it doesn't taste like iodine. i've never had a problem with it and i'm a bit of a water purist. i think they have them at REI.

I would suggest water tablets if you're backpacking, the water filter, unlesss it's that new msr water filter, is damnnned heavy (depends on what you have)

Andrew, you can bring your pack to show how it is done. I'd do that, too, but you know how "untraditional" my pack is.

    •  Good time with my peeps. Gotta stop spending money at REI.
    • Amy
So maybe a "test pack" at REI wasn't the best idea....did more shopping than packing! But the staff at REI was excellent, as always, especially our Jess! And PF Changs rocked too. Doggie was fine and had a great time on our little hike this morning. See the comment thread on this page, trying to get more feedback about the test pack concept in general...
    •  Great people...great shopping....great food! Amy, I promise next time we will attempt to conquer the great wall of chocolate!
