THE TRIP IS FULL, BUT PLEASE EMAIL TED IF YOU'D LIKE TO BE ADDED TO THE WAITING LIST. AFTER THE NOV. 12 PAYMENT DEADLINE, ANY OPENINGS WILL BE OFFERED IN ORDER TO THOSE ON THE WAIT LIST, AND IMMEDIATE PAYMENT WILL BE EXPECTED TO SECURE A SPOT.

This adventure is an 8-day/7-night trip to Costa Rica that includes 3 nights in a rustic lodge in a rain forest nature preserve as well as 2 nights in a scenic coastal village (Puerto Viejo). The trip organizer will arrange all lodging and transportation within Costa Rica, plus all meals and activities in the nature preserve over four (4) of the days.

Participants will be responsible for their own meals outside of the nature preserve, as well as selecting and paying for their own activities in Puerto Viejo. Participants are responsible for arranging and paying individually for airfare and transportation to and from the airport in the US.

More details and links are in the wiki for this trip. See, especially, the detailed Trip Itinerary page for more information. Also, read the message thread about this trip on the Meetup Message Board.

Trip dates: February 16 - February 23, 2008

Total size of the group is limited to 10.

Costs

Fees due to Meetup no later than Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 in order to reserve a place: $353*

Estimated cost of airfare to San Jose, Costa Rica:

$600 from Philadelphia or $300 from Washington, DC (Dulles airport, but note the departure and return times of the cheapest flights could make the lower-priced DC option a long and arduous journey).

Total *estimated* cost for each participant: $900-$1150

Reservation Procedures

No "Maybe" RSVPs will be allowed.

If you want to get on the waiting list, send an email to the trip organizer, who will add people to the waiting list in the order that they send in their email request. After the payment deadline, any remaining places will be offered in turn to those on the waiting list.

Since the size of the group is limited, no guests will be permitted, but guests are welcome to register as members of the Get Out Philly Adventurers Meetup so that they can go on this trip (registration is free, of course).

Please note: If there is sufficient demand, this trip can certainly be offered again, so don't despair if you don't get a spot this time.

    •  Amazingly awesome experience! I am going back, probably again and again. Hiking in the rain forest, seeing a 500 foot waterfall and then swimming at the top of it, seeing and hearing wildlife all around, playing wild games of Uno by candlelight in the lodge with new good friends while sipping 12-year-old rum and hot chocolate as clothes dry by the fire . . . some great memories. Then, getting up on the board and riding waves in my first surfing lesson with the great teacher, Beto, the ultimate "surfer dude, chilling in a hammock listening to birds and monkeys and the sound of the ocean, exploring the nightlife and live music in funky little Puerto Viejo, and wrapping up with an awesome massage that made all my sore muscles hurt in a good way . . . how could I not go back? Most of all, great times with great friends -- that's what makes the trip most memorable.

"you know you're not in kansas anymore when monkeys are throwing coconuts at your kayak....or when you're slogging through the steamy rain in knee-deep mud and not really minding all that much....or when you're speeding on a zipline through the trees so high up you can't see the ground....or when you have your first cup of coffee on a balcony that overlooks both jungle and ocean....or when dozens of random people in american airports ask your travel buddy about the story behind his palm hat...ah. great times everyone, thanks again, and thanks Ted for putting it all together!"
    •  Great! Let's do it again!
    •  F'in awesome! Can't complain about a single aspect of the trip. Great hikes, kick-ass waves, and cool folks. Thanks Ted!
