SUMMARY:Old Loggers Path Backpacking
DESCRIPTION:Get Out Philadelphia Adventure Group\n\nOrganizer: Andrew\n\nOk
\, so due to the success of our last backcountry trip\, we have decided to
do another backcountry hiking/ camping trip on the "Old Loggers Path" in th
e Tiadaghton State Forest in PA. It's about a four hour drive from Phili an
d it looks to be an absolutely beautiful hike. The loop is 27 miles and we
will be splitting this up over 2.5 days. If that seems to be too much\, the
re is also a connector trail in the middle that we could take back to the t
railhead which would basically cut the trip to about 20 miles. We'll decide
on the trail what the best option is.\n\nThe Old Loggers Path (OLP) is one
of Pennsylvania's premier loop trails. The OLP showcases some of the state
's most scenic areas\, with sweeping vistas\, cascading streams\, rock outc
rops\, and Rock Run\, a stream of exceptional beauty. Because the OLP offer
s so much scenery along an ideal weekend loop\, it is becoming increasingly
popular. \n\nTerrain: Eroded plateau with numerous streams. Trail often fo
llows old forest roads and grades. Ascents and descents tend to be gradual
with some steep sections\; they range between 200 and 800 feet. Sometimes r
ocky\, particularly between Sprout Point and Masten. Numerous stream crossi
ngs.\n\nTrail conditions: Trail blazed well and established. Few stream cro
ssings have bridges. \n\nHighlights: Waterfalls and cascades\, rock formati
ons and outcrops\, scenic mountain streams\, history\, Rock Run\, Sharp Top
  Vista\, Sullivan Mountain vistas\, wildlife\, and a large railroad grade.\
n\nCost: FREE other then contributing for fuel and tolls.\n\nGear: This is
a backcountry backpacking trip\, so you will need the normal backpacking es
 sentials. A backpack\, food\, good hiking boots\, tent/hammock\, sleeping b
ag\, headlamp/flashlight\, water gear (in case it rains).\n\nMy thought is
we leave on Friday afternoon around noon or possibly Friday morning (depend
ing on whether people can get a 1/2 day at work or even better...the day of
 f) and get there around either 1 or 5 pm. This will give us a few hours to
hike in and find a spot to pitch camp for the first night. Please note that
fire rings are allowed as long as we are far enough from the actual trail.
\n\nOh\, we will most certainly carpool. My rules for this is usually as fo
llows: those who drive do not pay for fuel and/or tolls which are to be spl
it between the others riding in said car.\n\n\nHere's a link with a little

note that this person did not do the whole loop but just a portion of it..
