I've been itching to get my butt back on a soccer team again....so I made it one of my goals for 2010! Based on the message board thread that Meredith started, there might be some interest in a Get Out Philly team....So let's play!

The team I'm interested in playing on is a 7v7 outdoor coed league through the Philadelphia Sport & Social Club. They'll play on Tuesday nights at the Lee Cultural Center at 44th and Haverford, beginning April 6. If we have 15 people, cost will be about $45 per person, includes a jersey, prizes if we win (I'm not making any promises) and drink specials at the sponsor bar after the game. The Philadelphia Sports Network has a Monday night team though. and they play at Chew Playground; we can talk about our options at the end of practice!

First Practice will be at Chew Park at 6:30 pm, 18th/19th & Washington. I'll bring a soccer ball & cones, but if we have the large turn out we might need a second ball....

If you don't know how to play but are curious, come out & get a basic lesson! Be prepared to run your butt off. Cleats are a good idea, shin guards too but don't worry if you don't have them yet. If we don't have enough people for at least a 5 on 5 scrimmage, we'll just do some fun drills.

For now I'm thinking practice/drills/scrimmage every other Tuesday until March, then practice every week on Tuesdays or Wednesdays until the season begins. If anyone knows of a real field (like with goals & lines & stuff!) that is somewhat centrally located, has some parking, and seems to be empty most of the time, let me know. After this week, Chew Park won't be available and daylight savings time will help us play longer in an unlighted field!

Shweet! LMK if you have any questions! If it rains or snows we'll reschedule for the next week.

PS: do me a favor if you are interested in the team commitment, please post in your RSVP so I can get a kind of idea about what the interest level is beforehand. We need at least 3 women to play at all times, so that will make a difference in whether or not we can have a team.

I'm interested in playing on a team for the coed league, but I can't make it to the latest rescheduled date on the 9th. Can you keep me in the loop and let me know when the next meet-up will be? Thanks!

ooo cool! That's easy to get to from Patco! Do people play there a lot? note about the time, i just moved it to 5:30 because it will be dark...once daylight savings kicks in I'd kind of prefer to hold them at 7. The game times will probably be all varied between 7 and 9 pm. I sent an email, haven't heard back yet. will email you kristen!

i was playing at 18th and washington until december. the lights stayed on until 10. no lines/goals, but enough space. and (street) parking was never an issue. if i can make it, i'll bring a ball.

Great to run around on a beautiful night & work on some of the skills I've gotten a bit rusty with. Go team!

Great fun messing around with everyone on the soccer dirt patch. Good to see some people with some real skillz there as an example of what we should be aiming for. Stopped on my way home and got my cleats and shin guards!
    •  too much fun!
