Come and experience a hi-tech treasure hunt right in your backyard! Geocaching is one of the fastest growing outdoor activities in the country. Kelly Drive and the surrounding trails have a number of these little treasure chests hidden along it...and we're going to track them down!

Using a handheld GPS unit, we'll split up into small teams and search for hidden containers (geocaches), clues and puzzles using their coordinates given.

Since of course it's just as much about the cool electronic toy, we'll first get an introduction to geocaching and general GPS usage by our guides, local business GeoVentures Inc. GPS units are used extensively to track your mileage and trips in backcountry hiking, and are great navigation tools. GPS units and all equipment will be supplied, although you may bring your own GPS if you wish!

Park in the Bells Mills parking area, and we'll meet on Forbidden Drive where the Drive intersects with Bells Mill Lane. I can't seem to locate an address, but a map with the approximate location (marked by a blue P) is below. I'll be wearing a Get Out Philly t-shirt & sign, and will send my phone number to the "Yes" RSVPs Friday night.

What to bring:
Water bottle
Snack
Comfortable shoes
Dress for activity and the weather

Kids welcome, at no cost; must be accompanied by an adult the entire time. Please post in your RSVP if you'll be bringing children! No dogs please. If it looks like rain, we'll cancel by Saturday morning (January 30).

We will probably be finished with Geocaching by 4 pm, but you can leave earlier if you need to. After our adventure we'll go out somewhere to eat, of course! If anyone has a suggestion for a location, post below!

The $2 fee is a donation to our new non-profit (after Amazon and Meetup fees) and guarantees your space. No refunds due to the low cost and donation factor :)

There's a map of the location in one of the links above. You need to find a big "P" on the map and get directions to this location.

Great meetup and awesome people! Thank you, Amy :)
    •  from the sound of it we need a tutorial about How to Dress in Cold Weather

The day was cold but that didn't bother me. I saw old friends and made new ones. We tried out something cool. It was a fun time!
    •  I had head about geocaching and I wanted to try something new. It was fun to have a goal other than just enjoying a hike (and taking pictures). We broke up in smaller groups and helped each other learn to use the GPS and the creek added to the challenge. After a few geocaches, we realized we walked right past some on our way to others. The geocaching planner was very enthusiastic about an activity he enjoyed sharing with others.
    •  It was quite interesting and a lot of fun. Good event to do again in spring or fall.
