On New Year's Day for the last 20 years or so, I've been hiking down to the Mummers Parade. From Chestnut Hill we hike through the Wissahickon to the bike path, then cross Ridge Ave to Kelly Drive. At the Art Museum we head towards City Hall and the Mummers. We may stop at Whole Foods near the Art Museum for a bite, then head on towards City Hall and the Mummers regalia. It's always great to hear the music and see the costumes after the quiet of the hike. Sometimes we stay and watch the Mummers till nightfall. Sometimes we head right back to Chestnut Hill. Return home either from Suburban Station or Reading Terminal taking the R8 of R7 towards Chestnut Hill, last stop.
The hike should take about 4.5-5.5 hours with a stop for food. We will go at a decent pace. Remember that the weather will warm up during the day, so dress in layers with a pack to carry discarded clothing.
Meet at Hill House (201 W Evergreen, 19118) meet at 915am. Here's a google map link. http://local.google.c...
The photo is from a previous hike. The temperature was about 65 that day and we had just about that many people. Someone said they saw a tour bus near the starting point.
If you change your mind please change your RSVP. No-shows may be barred from my events. Email or call if you have a problem.
Great to bring Fido.

Yep, the hike is on. Last time I looked at the weather report. Thurs morning, there was only a 20% chance of rain during hike time. Think the weather will be Ok, and warm for this time of year.
Dave, we usually stop at Whole Foods at 20th & PA Aves. Folks often scatter in all directions once we get to the parade. Switch cell numbers with someone (I have no cell) if you want to meet us downtown.

Is the hike still on in the event that the parade is cancelled? I'm more interested in the hike, but I know some folks stay downtown for the parade.

Sidney, I already live in CC and will be at the parade. Any way to meet up with you all. Is there a spot you typically go to for the parade?
