We are seeing a lot of "Third Annual" type posts this year....
If you've never been, Mount Snow is a wicked fun mountain, with not only a great variety of trails (wide double-green cruisers to giant moguls, tree skiing, and super steep double blacks), but also has great spots for apres-ski food, fun & music. Big enough for lots of exploring but not so big that you can't find your way back.
New last year, for the shredders, Mount Snow has turned the entire Carinthia ski area into a terrain park, with a skate park at the base lodge and halfpipes, rails & jibs all over the place.
Lifts:
The cost for a two day lift ticket is $107; I'll be staying a third day, and if you'd like to as well the three-day lift ticket cost is $131. Your spot is only confirmed with payment; post in your RSVP if you'd like a third day and bring cash to make up the difference :)
Rentals and lessons:
Please bring cash on the trip for these, as we will need to pay for all of them at once, when we get there. to If you want to send me a check for the total so you don't have to worry about it, you can do that too.
- Two day equipment rental: $57
- Three day equipment rental: $77
- One day group clinic: $30
- Two day group clinic: $50
Group clinics are two hours long, and are for all skill levels. Prices for clinics and rentals are the same whether you are skiing or snowboarding.
If you've never been on skis or a snowboard before, they have a special introductory package which gets you ski/snowboard rental, a two hour group clinic, and lower mountain access, all for $55. This is only for one day; if you want to ski Sunday and/or Monday, you'll need to buy a two day lift ticket and rent equipment separately.
Lodging:
We'll stay at my family's ski house in southern Vermont, about 30-45 minutes from the mountain. The house sleeps 13...cozily....and we'll need 16 for the group rate. Bring your sleeping bag and an air mattress if you'd like! Twin sized preferred for space considerations...
The house has a full kitchen, so we can cook our own breakfasts and pack our own lunches if we want, with the possibility for a group dinner on Saturday if anyone is interested and would like to take on the task of coordinating food. There is a grocery store in town and a great local market on the way home from the mountain. There are also plenty of places in West Dover and downtown Wilmington we can go for dinner. Some vintage board games and (also vintage) Warren Miller films will provide entertainment if we're too tired to stay out late. (Did I mention bring beer?)
Carpooling:
If you can take off at noon on Friday, you'll find traffic a bit lighter. If you time it right, you could also take the train into Brattleboro and we can pick you up! Since the two-day tickets are good for either Saturday/Sunday or Sunday/Monday, you could also choose to drive up Saturday & ski Sunday & Monday (much less crowded!)
The house is in rural southern Vermont; expect the trip to take about 6 hours, 7 if you leave after 5 pm. I'll send out directions before the event; the address only seems to show up on GPSes half the time, and cell phone service by the house appears to be non-existent....there is a land line at the house though, so i'll send out that number as well. We can experiment with two-ways.
Note: The directions that Meetup will give you will get you to the mountain...don't follow them.
Any questions, just ask. This will be the kind of trip you will want to tell your grandkids about...my dad has loads of stories, and I could listen to them again, and again....:)
Alternative Lodging: If 16 people in a three bedroom house sounds like a bit much for you, you can also reserve your own hotel room and still get in on our group rate. The Mount Snow website has contact info; they can make reservations right on the mountain or anywhere in the Deerfield Valley.
