Join me to explore trails less traveled in the wild (I saw a ferocious chipmunk the other day) Wissahickon Creek part of Fairmount Park.
We hike at a moderate pace for about 2.5 to 3 hours. The terrain is hilly with lots of ups and downs. Each month I forge a different route or get lost in another area depending on your point of view. This is not a hike for those who want to go straight down one trail. We go up, down, around, back, hit dead ends, reverse course, and so on.
Bring water in hot weather. I drink 1 liter per hour on hot days. I find light hiking boots or trail running shoes better for park and city hiking than regular hiking boots.
Only ice, hard rain, 100% chance of thunderstorms, or pestilence stops us from hiking. Can't remember a cancelled hike. Snow, not ice, makes the hike even more fun. Heat slows us down.
We meet at Hill House in Chestnut Hill, just off Germantown Ave near Borders. The R8 and R7 trains are nearby.
Ok to bring your dog or kids.
I'll be collecting a $1 donation at the hike. All money goes to the group, none to the leader.
If you change your mind, change your RSVP. No-shows may be barred from future events.
If the hike is full at the moment check back a few days or one day before the hike. People often change their mind.
Some general rules and responsibilities for all hikes:
1- Stay with the group.
2- Listen to instructions, especially safety precautions.
3- Do not loose contact with the group.
