Help out at the city's annual Greenfest to promote sustainable living! This year's theme is Sustainable FOOD so gastronomes should come on out to see & sample Philly's best & greenest!
The festival features an Eco-fashion show with sustainable clothing, a Green Film Festival, a Food Symposium with info & discussion about modern and sustainable food, free yoga sessions and live music! Plus there will be over 200 exhibits, featuring sustainable food to sample and purchase, earth-friendly companies, sustainable products and local non-profits.
I've signed up a group for the 2pm volunteer shift. Greenfest officially begins at 11 am, so you can check out the festival and the food earlier, then help out as the festival gets busiest in the afternoon. All volunteers get a FREE meal ticket and a t-shirt!! Can't make the time work, you can sign up to volunteer on your own (link below).
PLEASE NOTE: This is a FREE volunteer event. FREE Get Out Philly events usually means lots of no-shows. DON'T DO THAT. If you aren't going to show up, don't RSVP Yes. Greenfest and Get Out Philly are expecting you to honor your commitment. Amy will haunt you forever if you say yes and do not show up. Thank you.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
Assisting vendors if needed, Recycling Stations, assisting at the UGP tent, selling T-Shirts, running the info booth, directing foot traffic, helping at one of the following sub-events of the festival as a greeter or backstage help: The main stage (music, speakers), the Eco-Fashion Show, the Clothing Swap and the Eco-Film Forum and Symposium.
Specific responsibilities will be assigned when we arrive.
Please let me know if:
- You'd like to model for the fashion show;
- If you aren't able to do heavy lifting or stand for long periods of time
Please bring a water bottle to refill with filtered water that will be provided (reduces waste!). You will need to wear the t-shirt during your volunteer shift.
Volunteers are encouraged to take public transit, bike, carpool or walk to Greenfest! Post where you're coming from on this event page!
Bring stuff to donate
One of the activities will be to create recycled art out of materials that are not recyclable in Philadelphia. If you have any of these items, bring them along to donate!
- Plastics #3, 4, 5, 6, and 7
- Aluminum Foil (used and cleaned)
- Styrofoam (CD cases, VHS and cassette tapes, egg cartons, cups, packaging pieces from electronics boxes – PLEASE NO PEANUT PACKAGING)
- Wax Coated Paper and containers (milk boxes, juice boxes, cups, etc.)
- NO: Glass, Plastic #1 or #2, Aluminum Cans, Paper, Cardboard, Compostables or other organic matter.
- ALL items must be CLEAN. ALL items must NOT be recyclable in Philadelphia (or able to be reused for something else). ALL items must have been used for something once before and would otherwise be on their way to the landfill.
Even if you can't commit to volunteering with us, check out the festival if you can!
